Digital Techniques for Map Analysis

A couple of years ago the UK Association for History and Computing, AHC(UK), planned to issue a handbook for use by history and archaeology students, offering guidance on how to use computers productively in historical research. The project received encouragment and some backing from The National Archives (TNA) and the Institute for Historical Research (IHR) ... but sadly, the volume was never completed.

However, one section did reach print-ready status - a chapter on the analysis and interpretation of historical maps using computer-based graphics software.

A copy of this chapter is available in high-definition PDF format for viewing/download via this link.  (NB: the file is large - 2.8Mb - so please allow time for it to download)

It is hoped that in this way, the material will reach some of those for whom it was originally intended.
